To Potential Pacesetters,

Below is the information for 2023 but most of the information and dates stay close to the same each year. 2023 is a very Big year to train and compete with the Pacesetters as the National Junior Olympics Championships are at one of the most famous Tracks in the World, Haywood Field, Eugene, OR. We always include a big trip to the Oregon Coast at the same time as it is a spectacular area of the US.

To be put on our www.teamsnap.com email. Email me and I will send you an invitation from teamsnap to fill out.

Joining the Club

1. You can try out practice for 2 days to see if you like to run. We like athletes to try it out as some end not really wanting to train hard.

2. Cost $70.00 for the summer and you must get a USATF membership card. You must help out 2 days in the fall XC season also(required).

a. We are doing a new system for 2023.

b. Email me with your name and email address

c. I will send you an invite from www.teamsnap.com go to www.teamsnap.com link and register for the club online. You also pay here online for the club membership.

d. Club Membership fee and even donations can be paid online at paypal.me/greensboropacesetter Make sure you put down athletes name who payment is for or what you are paying for.

3. Fill out Pacesetter Membership form and pay the membership fee online after you get your USATF Membership number. TBA location of payment system and sign the volunteer requirement for the fall.

4. Then go to www.usatf.organd join as a youth memberships or renew from last year. Instructions below.

Joining the Greensboro Pacesetters with USATF, Quick version

1. YOU MUST FILL OUT A MEMBERSHIP FORM on teamsnap with all your information, USATF CARD AND PROVIDE 2 COPIES OF YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE.  USATF Club # 13-0622

A. Your USATF membership number can be obtained at WWW.USATF.ORG,register as Greensboro Pacesetters 13-0622

B. Immediately send a copy of your birth certificate with your USATF number on it to the online system USATF is currently doing.

C. This must be done ASAP or by June 1. We can not enter you in meets until this is done.

For Coaches and Volunteers:  As like everyone, USATF is going a little crazy in the requirements.

1.    Join USATF as a coach and list the Greensboro Pacesetters Track Club as your club,  USATF Club #  13-0622, our name should pop up in club box.

2.    Then do the YOUTH background check at www.usatf.org at the same time.  this is good for 2 years now instead of every year.

3.    Then go to the coaching area and take the about one hour course on Safesport with your USATF number.  Every Olympic sport coach has to do this.  Easy but must be done.

4.    Background check takes about 2 days.  Once you are listed as approved, you are ready to help out with the kids.

5.    One of the best parts about doing this is that you get in free to every JO state, regional and national meet.  This actually saves money if you go to the meets and is cheaper than buying a ticket.

We have competed in every USA National Junior Olympic Championship since 1979.

Few key items of interest to potential track runners.

1.  About 40% of the team just trains all summer with us due to other conflicts. If you just want to train, this is fine but you still must join the club and become a member of USATF.

2. We have about 6-7 fun, free track meets on Wednesday night in the summer for everyone. They last from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM and all the events we can get in on that time. This is mainly for younger athletes 6 years old to 12. There is one open age group after that.

3. Do not wait until school is out to decide to train and run with us as 1/3 of the season is already over. Come out after your State meet.

4. Look at the Pacesetter Records(Top 10 list) on our website. If you want to be in the record book, you do need to plan and race in the summer. All of the records are from athletes who raced at some point in the summer. You do not do much racing but the experience helps you out tremendously.

5. Many of our star athletes in middle school go into high school and jump right into their school team races and schedule. This is the time to get ready to run fast in high school. Look at the fastest athletes ever in Guilford county in the 800, 1600, 3200, Long Jump and ++ more events.

**************************************************

** DO NOT sign up for much of anything this summer, track camps, cross country camps, vacations until August if you want to go to the National JO Meet in Oregon.

**        We must compete in the State/Association at NCAT Last weekend in June, then the regional meet in TBA July early and then the Nationals at Haywood Field, University of Oregon last week of July.

What you need to do in order to be ready for a great summer of competing:

1. Renew your USATF ASAP and make sure it is still birth date verified.  Once you verify it last year, you do not have to do it again as long as you renew.

2. FIND relay team members during the high school track season this summer who want to compete with you in Florida.  The Pacesetters have had athletes from Charlotte, Boone, and even Atlanta compete with us.

3. Check the Club records if we are missing your name from the list.

4. Any training questions, email me any time or call at night or on the weekends.

5. Coaches, volunteers and people who want to help out.  USATF is getting a little crazy on screening volunteers.  If you would like to help out this summer or just supervise some of the training runs or events, USATF has a required list of items you must complete including a background check.  EMAIL or Call me for more information.  This is good to do early.

6. EMAIL or Call with any questions.  Charlie Brown snoopytrac@aol.com    Cell phone 336-339-3248

Middle School Cross Country 5th-8th grade

In the Fall, Coach Sachin Anchan has a group training for the Junior Olympic cross country meets which runs from Mid-August to Early December.

Mark also has a small group who wants to train and get in shape in the winter( January to March/April/Early May) before the spring and summer meets.  This is running training only. This is NOT for high school athletes who should be running for their high schools.

  Fall Cross Country

Meet at the tennis courts at Grimsley High School.  We will practice at least 2 days per week. Most practices will be on Mondays and Thursdays. Practices are usually at the park across the street from Grimsley or at Bur-Mill Park.

Additional Information:

TBA

Pacesetter Track Club Records and all time top 10 list

Look at the list at our website.  If you made the list, email me with name, age group, event, time and meet.  I will try and get them up later this week.  Do this NOW.  Once school and the fall XC season starts, it will be hard to change the list.

We had LOTS of new additions to the lists.  Make sure you get your name in the correct spot.  The team reset a few 20 + year old records this year.  Blair broke a 31 year old record and Nolan broke one that was 28 years old. Tori and Nolan killed the steeplechase record.

If you are missing medals from this summer, let me know the event, meet name and place.

Cross Country Meets:

1.   Everyone must help out at least 2 times this fall in our XC meets.  This is what you signed up for as part of the track club.  If you can not help out(we would rather have your help), you can pay the extra $100 in order for us to hire people/other schools to help in the XC meets.  Sending a check will be fine.

2.   Helping out is actually a lot of fun.  We need lots of workers at all the meets.  The jobs can fit what you like to do.  Timer, crowd control, starting line help, chute workers, Write down race numbers at end of chute, pull tags at chute, set up course, take down course, sell T-shirts, post results, more people to help in chute, back up starter, traffic control, registration, +++

3.  Some of the volunteers have been helping us in the meets for over 20 years.  Once your child gets out of high school, come on back out and help us out.

4.  The XC meets are what pays for all the free things we do such as the All Comers meets, Guilford County HS XC Championships and other events.  Free race numbers for the high school teams.

5.  High School athletes:  YOU need to stay after the meets and help us the rest of the day.  Tell your high schools you need to help take down the course and put everything up.

6.   Hagan Stone Park still has a lot of damage from the storms last spring.  If you are good at moving limbs or have a chainsaw, we need to get a group out there this week to make the trail usable in parts.

High School Cross Country Athletes:

The XC HS season is very short this year with a November 1 State Meet.  You need to put in the hard work now and September and be ready for peaking early.  Once the 2nd week of October is done, the season is about over.  Be ready to peak early this year.

Athletes, you should try and get together to have some hard workouts in September and Early October on the weekends your high school is not training.

High School Track and Field Athletes:

The outdoor 3A and 4A season is also short this year.  Again, be ready to work hard in February and March to have an early peak for the State meet.

Indoor Track will be very important this year about getting into shape.  Southwest will be having 2 indoors meets at JDL and the County Championships will be a little later this year.

Pacesetter Sweats, performance T's, T-shirts,

It is to short a span to get what we need over the summer on time.  We are going to get Pacesetter clothing this fall to purchase.  We will try and have the items at Off n Running this fall and give you about 5 weeks to purchase them.  What is not purchased will be boxed up.

This way you can wear the Pacesetter clothing in the Winter and Spring and some new athletes might ask you about the club.

We went through all the old uniforms in my attic and put all the extras in boxes.  I will try and have a night to come by in August and you can pick out any you want to have.  There are mostly bigger sizes but a few smaller ones are left.

Clayton took pictures of all the old uniforms and we will have them on our picture website soon.

https://greensboropacesetterstrackclub.shutterfly.com

Pictures:

We are starting to find all the old pictures of our club athletes and putting some on the internet at:

https://greensboropacesetterstrackclub.shutterfly.com

I need your pictures of ANY year you have of pacesetter athletes competing.   They need to be labeled by at least the year taken and hopefully, year, meet, event, person in photo.

CHECK out what is up now and see what you can add to it.  We even need OLD runners photos(parents I coached).

Any questions, let me know.   We had a very nice season this year and look to having an even better year in 2015.

AUGUSTINE, UNC-ASHEVILLE, RICHMOND, FLORIDA STATE, John Hopkins, Clemson, High Point University, WILLIAM & MARY, WESTERN CAROLINA, PITTSBURGH, Davidson,  College of Charleston, Western Carolina, Elon,

One thing to watch out for in the massive cutbacks at the Power 5 level is the huge number of scholarships being given out at smaller D1 schools and D2 schools.  Make sure you ask them to match the cost at any in state school you might want to go to.   As you are talking to these coaches, remember what basic math is.
Example
www.collegescorecard.ed.gov     Shows excellent facts on any college

www.northcarolina.edu    Shows how students from any PUBLIC high school in North Carolina did at any Public university in North Carolina.    You can look up Southwest and it shows how our students did their freshman and sophomore years at any NC public college.  Example  ASU had 69 SWG students apply and 53 admitted and 15 actually went there in Fall of 2020.  Great Facts here.

NCAT average cost per student $10,045 ($18,136)
UNCG average cost per student $12,158  ($16,900)

private college who offers you $15,000 to compete on their team.
ABC college NC   $44,146 -$15,000(your track scholarship), you pay $29,000 to compete in track in college at an average school per year.

DEF college NC, $47,074-$15,000(your track scholarship),
you pay $32,000 to compete in track in college at an average school per year.

1.  Talk to the coach directly that your total out of pocket must match the total cost to attend a public NC school.  This gives them a starting point to find more money for you.
2.  Loans are loans.  You must pay them back.  Watch out for loans described as something else.
3.  Get as much information in writing that you can.  Emails are good to use to keep track of costs at different schools.
